Total war isn't RTS, since the strategy portion of the game is turn based.

Anything in the Total War series is not RTS; I'm telling you guys! It is!! !!! During the ingame battle you take realtime control of an army and strategically kick the other guys face in.

If the game is listed under Real Time Strategy by the developers then the Total War series are RTS's.

Anything in the Total War series is not RTS; I'm telling you guys! It is!! !!! During the ingame battle you take realtime control of an army and strategically kick the other guys face in. That's not strategy, that's real time tactics. Strategy means the bigger picture, involving equipment procurement, infrastructure development, large scale army movement, and the training of troops. Tactics is just maneuvering in battle to accomplish a short term goal, such as winning that battle. Hence, Total War games are turn based strategy mixed with real time tactics.

Must we be so particular? Bah, then I like turned-based games with real time tactics.

Yes, in the military we must be particular or we die. There's a huge difference between strategy and tactics.

its just TW contains all the things you talked about ;x. TW has equipment (as your technology advances, your troops get better equipment) Infrastructures( Economy, armor development, ports, social buildings, etc) Large scale army movements (anywhere from armies from 100 men to 3,000 men) and it involves the training of troops. Troops stationed at cities can be trained at local military buildings, and combat can give soldier's experience in the game. The only thing it fails under in what you say is it is "turn-based" Yes...its turn-based. But its not like final fantasy turn based, its more like a 3d chess game. So, TW is a startegy game. Your issue is obviously with the "real" part of the equation. However, I think to not let TW be part of the RTS genre just doesn't make sense. Its close enough. If you don't use strategy in TW, you won't win even if you're a great on-map commander. You must learn to use your resources and geography along with other factors to succeed in the game. If that isn't strategy.....then what is?
I'm curious, have you played a TW campaign to completion?

Lol, you just aren't getting it. I never said it wasn't strategy, I said it wasn't real time strategy. All the strategic elements within the games are within the turn based portion of the game. RTS includes games like Starcraft, Age of Empires, and Stronghold. Turn based strategy includes games like the campaign portion of Total War, and Civilization. RTS and TBS are way different game genres. I rather prefer turn based anyways, since RTS just turns into a game of attrition.
And yes, I've played a lot of campaigns to completion. I think it's funny you're arguing this, since I've been playing Total War games since when you were probably in kindergarten,
